Mothers Day

Mothers day when you have a special needs child isn’t a day off.

It’s the day your low functioning 15 year old pours your a bowl of cereal without help… and you don’t mind picking up the mess.

It’s the day you think your blind kid sees you.

It’s the day when nonverbal does not mean you cant hear “Happy Mothers Day” with your heart

It’s the day when he wont behave through brunch,  but you realize you wouldn’t have had that much fun with waffles at a fancy restaurant anyway.

It’s the day that your mother finally realizes how much harder your job is.

It’s the day that Dad turned of the monitor and slept on the floor in your kid’s room so you could sleep through the night.

What does it mean to you?

Srs cake business

Lightbulb’s birthday party was a smashing sucess.

Echolocation and Frusteration

I get really frusterated not knowing how much my daughter can see.

In Touch: News for Blind People did a show on Echolocation recently. Echolocation is using sound to figure out what is around you. For example, if someone holds a board to your left, and you snap in front of you and to your right, it will make a different noise than snapping to your left does. It’s part of mobilaty and orientation training in some programs. I dont know how I feel about it. I guess I think that humans would have a hard time using it. It is was bats use to get around. I dont know. I’d have to see someone use it to really understand how it works.
